Starting Youtube

One of the things I wanted to do this summer was start a YouTube channel and guess what... I have!
My channel name is Izzy K and here it is.

I've been watching YouTube videos for what seems like forever. Then I discovered that people made multiple videos and had accounts which people subscribed to. The first YouTuber I remember watching was Jenna Marbles when my friend sent me "how to get people to stop talking to you". Ever since then I always wondered how fun it must be to upload videos to make people laugh.

Never in a million years did I think I would actually do it myself. I'm by far one of the shyest people at my school and if people from my school found out about my little hobby I think they'd be surprised more than anything. Many people in my year have never heard me talk, yet alone in a video posted on the internet for everyone to see. Once someone asked me if I was doing a sponsored silence for charity and I awkwardly had to explain that nope I wasn't... it was just an ordinary school day for me!

The thing I'm dreading the most about it is not people making fun of me or disliking my videos, its the attention I might get with it if people find my videos. The thought of people bringing it up in conversation makes me feel a little bit ill and I prefer to just keep to myself.

Not that many people know about my plans to make videos. So far 3 friends know. One of them found out when it came up in conversation that we would like to make videos which ended in us actually making one together. Another found out by finding a link to my channel. The third found out because my other friend told her. That was kinda nice of her though because it broke the ice and made it easier for me not to hide things from my friends. I just hope it becomes easier to tell more people so it doesn't look like I'm hiding it because I'm embarrassed.

I think the main types of videos that I will make will be vlogs and tags and maybe even a few reviews. The last video I made was "most likely too", with my friend, and I'm planning to do daily vlogs for my Summer holiday to Germany.

Here is the video!

I thought I should mention the reason I wanted to start YouTube. I don't want to beg for subscribers or have millions and millions of views, I literally just want to make videos that people enjoy and that will be fun to make. Throughout my teenage years I feel like it has been YouTubers that have kept me sane. Just hearing your own thoughts being spoken by someone else and put in a video is reassuring because it made me realise I'm not the only one to feel like that and everything is ok. (oh I'm getting soppy now better finish writing).

The song of the day is Chandelier by Sia because its a totally boatally amazing song.

5 Things To Do This Summer

"What time is it?" SUMMER TIME!!!

The summer holiday between secondary school and sixth form will be the longest one of my life. 12 weeks. Yeah baby! And I desperately don't want to waste it. I usually spend my holidays lying in bed watching Netflix and playing Sims (and I'll probably do a bit of that these holidays) but I wanna be slightly more productive than usual. That's why I've thought of a few things to keep me busy this summer such as:
  • Blogging more- I never thought I would, but I quite enjoy writing my thoughts and documenting my feelings. I'll admit that I'm not the strongest writer and passing my English GCSEs proved to be difficult, but blogging is different as it is more relaxed with less pressure as I'm free to write what I want.  It will be fun to grow my blog with more posts.
  • Exercise-Hahahaha...oh no! But it has to be done. These past few months I've literally been stuffing my face as a distraction from revising and lets just say I dont want to be slipping into any bad habits.
This will be what happens when I try to be healthy
  • Sort my room out- My room has turned out to be a bit of a disaster because revision notes were piling up everywhere and I still have all my school stuff filling up my cupboards that need to be taken out ready for the new year. I feel like until my room is tidy I wont be able to think straight.
Wish me luck sorting through my school work!
  • Read more- Now I'm not someone who likes reading...at all. But since everyone keeps saying how good it is I kinda feel like I'm missing out. My mission: to read the entire Harry Potter series over these holidays (I'm a really slow reader and it takes me about quarter of an hour to read 20 pages)
Cant wait to get stuck in
  • Social Media- I'd like to post more on websites such as Tumblr, Twitter and YouTube. I recently got all these accounts and I'm still worried about posting for fear of "does this sound stupid" and "everybody's gonna hate me". I hate that this stops me from enjoying myself so I just have to grit my teeth and stop being so self conscious.
The song of the day is Human by Christina Perri.

Finishing Secondary School :(

Even though I was never popular or stood out during school, I still enjoyed (almost) every day of it and its so strange to think that I've finished 12 years of it. Out of all the stages of school, secondary school was the most enjoyable.

Strangely enough I wasn't scared about starting year 7, because I remembered that when I started Junior School I was terrified but there turned out to be nothing to be nervous about. The most exciting things that happened were 2 school trips to Warwick Castle and then to Germany for a week. I took the new experience in and talked to a large range of people from new schools and new classes. However, I soon got back to my usual shy self when everyone made their new friendship groups. Looking  back its strange to see how grown up I felt going into secondary school and thinking "now that I'm in Year 7 everyone will take me seriously!" Hahaha that didn't quite happen.
Me at Warwick Castle (so rebellious with my top button undone!)

Now that I've had my leavers day and prom its started to sink in that I have really finished. There will be lots of things I will miss like:

  • Seeing friends everyday (I know I'll see some at Sixth form but some are moving to a new school)
  • Being in large classes because next year it will be smaller so I cant blend away as much
  • Private jokes between people
  • School trips, even though I only went on about 3, because I'll doubt there'll be many next year
  • Having the whole security and knowing that there will always be people to help. Also the fact that I don't have to make any decisions about my future yet.
To sum up year 11 in 3 words I would say: stressful, fun and quick. I had 17 exams at the end of the year which meant sleepless nights and lots of worrying. Fun because despite exams there were lots of fun events as the leavers day and prom. And for obvious reasons quick because it seemed to go by in 5 minutes and it still hasnt sunk in that I am no longer at secondary school.

On the last day everyone dressed up and met in the park before walking to school together. Me and my friends decided to dress with a Disney theme and I went as Jessie from Toy Story. That day was the best out of the year because everyone was so happy and it was just really nice for everyone to celebrate the last 5 years together.

The song of the day is going to be Salute by Little Mix and I know it has no real relevance but its just a really good song.

Prom

I've never really seen the big deal with prom or seen what the whole fuss and shabang is about. However, the less I cared about it and the more people questioned me about it the more I dreaded the whole thing. I know I'm probably gonna sound ungrateful but I'm not. Its just once the nerves start to kick in I can't even!

The lead up to prom (or akdjakjgkajdklajkd as I often refered to it) was by far the most stressful part. Most people were like "OMG I cant wait to get my hair and nails done and pick out my dream dress" but I wasn't really interested. People kept asking me what plans I had made for the big day and to be honest I had no idea because I never really thought about it. Being someone who likes to plan everything this really bothered me. This lead to me changing the topic every time someone brought it up or pushing it to the back of my mind.

Then, at 11pm the night before, I had a bit of a breakdown. Again... I had told my friends that I didn't want to go before because I couldn't deal with the pressure of having to organise everything but luckily they convinced me otherwise. So at 11pm I told my mum that I couldn't sleep and she said that it was probably just excitement but then I had no choice but to tell her how I'd been feeling for the past months. Thankfully she wasn't angry at me despite being so excited to see me all dressed up. She said that I didn't have to go and that she would tell everyone that I was sick so I wouldn't let anyone down by saying I just didn't want to go. After waking up the next morning and sleeping on this decision I decided that i would go for 3 reasons.
A: I didn't want to let my friends down because they were nervous too.
B: My family had spent probably more than they should have on it (woops) and I didn't want to let it go to waste.
C: I don't want to be someone who drops out last minute because their scared because then I wont learn how to deal with big events.

With all the melodramatic nonsense aside I can begin to talk about the actual night which to my surprise wasn't actually...that bad.

Getting ready was actually quite exciting once I excepted that I was actually gonna go. My dress was a surprise when it came because on the website it was a light minty green colour but when it came it was more a lime colour but it still looked gorgeous. As soon as I saw it I knew it was the dress I wanted which was good because I seriously had no clue what I wanted before.

My dress from the front/side

My hair was done in curls and plaited to the side with a waterfall braid on the other side.

My hair from 3 angles (I know I look like I'm horrified I'm just not very photogenic)

My nails were probably the easiest part of getting ready because just brought a set of fake nails for £5 at Claires and stuck them on in about 10 seconds. Simple!
Chilling in the Limo. Apparently this is my excited face

The bit I was dreading the most by far was the red carpet. At my school, before we go inside, we have to go up a red carpet which feels like it is 200 miles long but in reality is probably only about 20 meters. The thing that was scaring me the most about the entire day was walking in because people from my entire town turn up to watch it. I hate being the center of attention and that's all prom is really isn't it?

After all the moaning I've done in this post I thought I should take the time to mention that after all the panicking I really did have a good time. Everyone looked beautiful and everyone was in such a happy mood and had been waiting a really long time for the exams to finish and celebrate. Long story short the night consisted of:
  • Riding in a Limo and the driver "suggesting" that we turned the music up so he didn't have to listen to us singing anymore
  • Taking pictures
  • Listening to everyone complain about their heels but being brave and baring the pain
  • Dancing lots and lots and lots
  • Getting a coach with my school for the last time to the hotel  and the driver getting lost
  • Eating pizza at said hotel
  • Giving up and taking shoes off (black feet for the evening but worth it)
  • Dancing and singing lots more
After all that I would say that it was not worth the nerves because it was a fun evening that needed no stress at all. If I could do it again I would, over and over again, but do it with enjoying the getting ready process a bit more. I enjoyed myself the whole night long and thank you for everyone that made it enjoyable!

The song of the day is a little bit different to usual but its Wiggle by Jason Derulo because it was played over and over at prom and its the catchiest song in existence.

Dance Nerves :/

By having the grace and elegance of a drunk elephant its clear to me and anyone who watches me that I can't dance. This has never really bothered before me as I like to do fun things even if I'm bad at them.

I've been dancing, well trying to dance, since the age of 3 and never changed dance schools. I've always looked up to the older girls and there amazing dance moves and always thought that I couldn't wait till i was their age. Now it finally hit me... I am their age. However I'm like nooooowhere near as good as that. Woopsie.

And last night my dance school had a show and usually I'm like meh doesn't matter if i mess up I've still got plenty of time to improve as I grow up. But I cant use that excuse now and be like "well I'm small so its still cute anyway" because it would look a bit ridiculous if I was to stand on stage and not having a clue what I'm doing.
Imagine a non-cute version of this. That's me dancing!

These thoughts kept filling my mind and then I remembered that not only do I have dance in front of an audience, I also have to dance in front of my family. Who were there. On the front row. Cheering. As much as I appreciate the support, just having one of your family members in the audience adds a huge amount of pressure.

The pressure really stopped me enjoying it especially getting ready before hand. I usaually feel nervous about performing but I've never actually felt scared before. This time I thought I was gonna be sick on stage, fall over because my legs had turned to jelly and cry with nerves.

But after just the first dance my nerves started to ease. By the end I did still make awkward eye-contact with my family but I just went along with it and enjoyed it. Afterwards I came off stage feeling so relieved and with a huge buzz. I just wish I could go back and do it all over again and make the most of it. Overall I feel much better for having done it even when I thought I really couldn't. Its things like that which are really fun and you just have to make the most of while you can and not worry about what you look like doing them as long as you enjoy yourself!

The song of the day is I like to move it as it was one of the numbers and I've had it stuck in my head ever since. Good luck listening to that song without thinking of Madagascar!

Revising Fail

Just making the most of being on the internet as I know I soon won't be able to...

So exams are coming up, and these aren't just any old exams, oh no, these are my GCSEs. Now I know they're won't be the most important thing in my life ever and there is still much harder exams to come but OMG. I feel like if I don't do well my life is over and the 16 years I have spent on this planet have all been a waste.

Anyway back to the point I'm revising hard. Well I have to don't I. I spend a couple of hours a day revising, at least. My revision timetable is jam-packed of thing I still have left to learn.. But nothing seems to be sinking in!
This seems to be the story of my life right now

And its always fun to have to do hours of homework every evening and also be told by my teachers that they expect us to be revising more than we are. They don't consider that all I seem to be doing is revising. If you want me to revise stop setting so much homework. Its that simple.

The subjects I take at GCSE are: Maths, English, Italian, German, ICT, history, business studies and triple science. Overall I really enjoy my subjects but the work load can be a bit demanding. Finished my studying for the day now I can finally relax (for the rest of the evening).

But soon my life will consist of just so much homework. Much revision. Such stress. (btw I think I'm getting gooder at grammar)
Literally me when I have lots of work to do

I hope to be writing more posts up until my exams but I have to make the most of it if I cant. Wish me luck (good luck Izzy!) and I just hope the results I get from my exams won't mess up the rest of my life too badly.

The song of the day is more a cover of a song really. Its Little Mix's cover of Holy Grail/ Counting Stars/ Smells Like Teen Spirit. Say what you want about those four girls but there's no denying they have so much talent its unreal. And their voices together just make my life.

Reasons to be happy

Being a 16 year old girl I may sometimes get the urge to complain. That's pretty normal for a teenager. But then I have a reality check and realize there's actually a lot to be happy about. I came up with 10 simple reasons why I and other people in the same situation as me should be happy.

And without further ado here are the 10 reasons in no particular order:

  • Nice weather- Although living in England, the weather is never too exciting, when it's different it does make my day. It just makes me laugh how even the slight change in temperature causes the entire country to go into *EXTREME WEATHER CONDITION MODE* even it it just means one snowflake falling on the ground. As this country is completely unprepared for anything other than an over cast it means "yay snow day" which obviously makes me very happy.
  • I have water- This only just sunk in the other day. All I have to do to ensure I stay alive is turning on a tap. I can even chose if I have a cold glass of water or a hot shower, it still comes out the tap.
Genius invention!

  • THE INTERNET- honestly I don't know how people lived without it as my entire spare time is spent watching countless hours of videos... mainly of cats.
  • Food- Eating is not only essential to me, its also a hobby. Some of my personal favorites include: Nandos, pasta, chocolate and pizza. Just finding out I'll have any of these for my meal brings joy to my life.
  • Music- There's a song for every emotion. When your happy the best way to stay happy is to listen to music. Even on a bad day, listening to sad songs and hearing your feelings being sung just makes everything better.
  • Friends and family- I know that wherever I am and whatever happens I will always have someone to turn to that will make me smile (its unreal how cheesy I can be sometimes!)
  • Opportunities- I live in an environment where there is an opportunity around every corner, if you look for them. I know that I have the chance to do whatever I want in life. Now I just have to find out what it is I want to do...
  • I'm healthy- I may have the odd headache or sniffles occasionally but that's nothing compared to the illnesses and diseases some people have. This is something I don't take for granted.
  • I'm alive- Think about it for a moment... YOU ARE A LIVING BEING. That means you have the chance to live and have fun in life. #YOLO. Ok I hate myself for using that phrase but honestly, you do only live once so why not make the most of that one life you get?
Me realizing I should make the most of my life

  • Every problem I will ever have is just a first world problem- This is something I think about everyday without fail. Whenever I feel like complaining or think that I have it bad I just remember that whatever problem I face, that is nothing compared to what some people have to deal with everyday of their life.
This is the picture by Banksy that literally changed my entire attitude.

There is nothing more important when you're feeling upset and unfortunate to look at your life and see everything you have to be grateful for. Aaaannd the song of the day is Happy by Pharrell Williams.
