How To Pick A Degree You're Passionate About

It took me ages to decide whether I wanted to go to university or not. Whilst I was in 6th form I applied to study Psychology, fully knowing that I had no intention of actually going to university but everyone else was so I thought "meh I might as well apply for anything". But after actually taking the time to realize what I was passionate about, I am now very happily studying Media and Communication & Film studies at a university in Liverpool.

I honestly think I've made the best decision of my life because it's honestly the most ideal course for me and I'm so in love with what I'm studying. That's why I thought I'd share my tips on how I chose a degree that was perfect for me...

1. Be selfish- It's not often people tell you to do this, but when it comes to what is best for your studies putting yourself first is essential. Everyone's got their unique skills and talents, so the only way you're gonna choose a course that is right for you is by picking one that you yourself want to do. There's no point going to university to study a subject that you think your parents, family, friends or potential future employers want you to do. Do what's right for you and only you!

2. Evaluate the career you want to go in to- For me I always knew I wanted a career in the media. But don't ask me specifically what area though, I have no idea yet. That's why I thought "why don't I just do a media degree instead of psychology degree, if I'm gonna end up doing media anyway".

3. Evaluate your hobbies- If you're unsure of the career field you wanna go into, that doesn't matter (let's face it most people don't really know what they want to do with their lives). The best way you're gonna know what career you wanna go into is to base it off your hobbies. Like with me for example, all I do in my spare time is go on YouTube and go on Netflix so a Media+Film degree = a no brainer.

4. Look at universities- First of all you're gonna have to find universities that actually teach the subjects you want to do... obviously! But then an important factor to consider is the rankings of those universities. My advice would be not to look at the overall ranking of that uni, but the ranking of the course you're looking at. There's no point applying one of the top 10 universities in the country if it's got bad facilities to teach your specific course.

5. Visit the universities- Speak to students about their experience, look at student satisfaction, meet your potential future lectures and look at the location of your actual university. Looking at a university on the internet is soooooo different to seeing it in person, and you're gonna wanna make sure you will enjoy every second of living there.

6. Have a final sleep on it- Have a think to yourself whether you can really see yourself wanting to get up each morning to go to your lectures and whether you're really that passionate about your course that you'll spend time outside your lessons working on your degree.

As someone who knows what its like to study the perfect subject for them, I would say its definitely worth it to wait until you know what you want to do for sure. The song of the day is Stolen Moments by The Vamps. Let me know if you have any questions about my university experience so far, I'll be happy to answer :)

TV Characters We All Love To Hate

Every TV show has THAT character. The one who you would hate to be friends with in real life, yet they're the ones who you actually watch the show for. After all, they are the show.

Here are my top ten fave characters that I know I should hate, but I just simply love them:

10. Cook from Skins

This loveable rogue is the one of the love interests of Effy, and all though she ends up being #teamfreddie you as the audience cant help but have a soft spot for good ol' Cook. Despite his hard outer shell, he really is a big softy on the inside.

9. Tommy Shelby from Peaky Blinders

He's the baddie. But do we care? No we don't. We're routing for gangster Tommy, and his clan the whole way. Plus, as a Brummie, I approve of his accent!

8. Cheryl Blossom from Riverdale

Cheryl can be a bit cold hearted. But honestly we're all here for it. Her clever plans and wicked ways just are the life and soul of Riverdale, and lets face it we all kinda wanna be her.

7. Frank Gallagher from Shameless

This applies for both the UK and US version. Frank is a lazy lazy lazy father who simply isn't doing a lot for himself or others for that matter. Even though we wouldn't be jumping through hoops to have him in our own family, he really is the ultimate storyline behind the show.

6. Ross from Friends

If you know a "Ross" in person, all I'm saying is "Run". He's clingy, he's big headed and in my opinion just annoying in general. Yet his storylines are the best. I'm willing to fight anyone who says "The One With Ross's Tan" isn't the ultimate best episode.

5. Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory

Sheldon is a difficult one. His pedantic ways require a certain type of person to tolerate him, yet the comedy he provides to the show is pure genius (if you'll pardon the pun). But honestly TBBT is a show I love to hate in general.

4. Vod from Fresh Meat

She is the bee's knees and she knows it. The word "cool" was invented by Vod, yet she really uses this to her advantage to be able to do exactly whatever she wants and when because she knows she can.

3. Nathan from Misfits

The ultimate naughty boy. He's got no filter which explains how he gets himself into tricky situations. Is Misfits even Misfits without Nathan?

2. Jay from The Inbetweeners

How he thinks he's getting away with his blatant lies is beyond us. Jay is the sort where you tell him you've been to Tenerife and next thing you know he's been to Elevenerife. The cringe is real, but we can't stop watching.

1. Ned Flanders from The Simpsons

He really knows how to grind Homer's (and our) gears, but he's so innocent bless him. Let's be real, we all know a Ned IRL.

So here are the top ten characters we all love to hate. The song of the day is Drunk In Love by Beyonce. Let me know if you feel any other characters should be on this list,

The Spring Tag

I hate to admit this but Spring is a Season I almost forget about completely! Like my head just gets wrapped around the whole hype of Autumn, and then the festiveness in Winter. That's why by the time it comes to Spring I just take the time to return back to my ordinary day routine and just sort of get on with things without taking much in.

But this year I thought I'd show Spring some recognition and do the Spring tag. I know Winter isn't quite over yet, but I thought I'd get prepared for Spring before I completely forget that it ever happened. So here is the tag:

1. Favourite Spring nail polish?

My nails have been completely neglected since starting university. Like I've seriously had an intervention from a friend who asked WTF even happened to my nails because it's not like me to not have my nails done. But I have no nail polish with me at uni and my broke student ass can't afford to get them done so instead I'll show you a picture of some nails I really like...

How cute are these nails?!

2. What is your must-have lip colour this Spring?

Pumpkin by LimeCrime. Although the name suggests that it might be an Autumn shade, I just feel like it's the perfect Spring shade because it's so bright and cheerful.

3. Show us your favourite spring dress!

LMAO you must be joking if you think I'm able to stroll around the North of England in a dress, I legit have to wrap up like I'm wandering through the Arctic!

How me and the squad dress in Liverpool

4. What is your favourite flower?

I know it's cliche to say Roses, but I love all the different colours and shades that they come in. Also forget-me-nots are the cutest little things ever.

5. Favourite Spring scarf/accessory?

Maybe my school leaver's hoodie? Lol I legit just live in that at the moment.

6. What Spring trends are you most excited about this year?

If leaving the house in your PJs was a spring trend I'd be pretty chuffed about that. But since I don't think that's quite gonna be the trend of 2018 I'd have to say oversized jumpers and tops.

7. Favourite spring candle?

For some reason I never seem to light candles in the Spring and I don't know why that is. But I'd have to say "Under The Palms" by Yankee Candle because it legit smells of being on holiday.

8. Favourite spray/perfume for Spring?

Even though I sound like a year 8 for saying this, I love the Impulse range.

9. What is spring like where you live?

I currently live in Liverpool and it's bloody freezing. Although I did see the Sun for the first time since like moving here, which is actually what inspired me to write this post.

Can't lie, Liverpool is pretty in the Spring though

10. What is your favourite thing about Spring?

I love that you almost get a sense of a fresh start. Like everything seems to grow and come back to life again and that's what I feel like is happening to me this time of year.

11. Are you a Spring cleaner?

I'm more a "keep on top of it while you can" sort of cleaner, otherwise my mess just gets out of control. Like Izzy is a mess of a person so I've gotta make sure I stick to my weekly cleaning rota otherwise things get out of hand.

12. Any plans for Spring break or an upcoming vacation?

During the Easter holidays I have exactly 0 plans which I'm actually looking forward to. I think I might have my first proper time off since starting uni because I spent Christmas working but it will just be nice to relax and just stay on top of my uni work as much as I can.

So that was the Spring tag I hope you enjoyed reading. The song of the day is Dua Lipa's anthem which is IDGAF. What's your favourite thing about Spring?
